A brand new backstage update has make clear how AEW handled Ricochet’s recent apology after his controversial social media comment toward a fan with multiple sclerosis (MS) sparked backlash.
The situation began following AEW Revolution 2026, where Ricochet was involved in a storyline featuring a backstage meltdown segment. While the angle was designed to construct his character, things took a turn when a fan named Sandi criticized his acting online. Ricochet fired back with a harsh remark about her MS, drawing widespread criticism.
In response to the fan, Ricochet wrote, “I’m glad you bought MS.” While some wrestlers try to stay in character outside the ring, many felt referencing a real-life illness crossed the road.
Initially, Ricochet stood by his actions, pointing to the toxicity of social media and noting that he and his wife often receive hateful messages, including death threats. He claimed his response was meant to spotlight that negativity.
Nonetheless, he later deleted the post and issued a public apology on Twitter, admitting that he was unsuitable and that frustration got the higher of him. He apologized to the fan and others affected by MS, adding that he would “do higher” moving forward.
Based on a report from Sean Ross Sapp, AEW didn’t require Ricochet to apologize but did advise him that it was the appropriate plan of action. The report also noted that Warner Bros. Discovery was not involved within the situation.
