NHL Rumors: Matthew Knies May Not Have Been Who Canadiens GM Was Referring To

Montreal Canadiens GM may not have been hinting about Matthew Knies in his post-trade deadline presser

The Leafs Nation: David Pagnotta is clearing up some info on the Matthew Knies rumors to the Montreal Canadiens before the trade deadline. Knies may not have been the piece that Canadiens GM Kent Hughes was referring to. In case you can get the reminiscent of three first-round picks for Knies, you could have to listen.

Nick Alberga: “All right, you must clear up some, some conversation from the deadline. Like, I got cousins in Montreal asking me for Matthew Knies Habs jersey. How close was that? Was Knies really on the block? Like, what do you, what’s the fallout from all this, Dave? I can’t handle it anymore.”

Pagnotta: “I imagine that the Canadians and Leafs did discuss Matthew Knies. I feel OEL was brought up in some unspecified time in the future earlier. I don’t think that’s the player the Canadians were close on. I’ve gotten a whole lot of ‘No’s’ on that. That, that was the Hab goal that Kent Hughes was referring to in a big deal. So unless everybody is lying, it doesn’t sound like Knies was the guy that the Habs were working on fully.

NHL Rumors: Johnston and Dreger on Maple Leafs Matthew Knies

Now, there have been teams that were talking to Toronto all week. And in case you’re getting the equivalent of three first-round assets back then, I feel you could have to think about it, or take a look at it.

That was the value for (Jordan) Kyrou. It was 4 pieces for (Robert) Thomas. Just like what Quinn Hughes got from Minnesota, which was three guys that were drafted in first round after which one other first-round pick. So 4 pieces. That was the value for Thomas.

I feel it was three of those pieces for a man like Kyrou, and I feel Knies fit into that three-piece prong. And in the event that they’re, , a team willing to pay that, then you definitely got to listen.
