Usyk recently dismissed the concept of facing the 21-year-old, saying he doesn’t need to “break” him. The Ukrainian pointed to Itauma’s age and experience, indicating the priority must be rounds, development, and constructing through the ranks.

Chisora agreed with that position and laid out a path he believes Itauma should follow before calling for a shot at the highest.

“Why should he fight Itauma? Has Itauma won the British title? Has he won a European title? Has he won an English title?

“Everybody got steps to do. I believe Moses Itauma should go and win the European title, British title and other belts.

“He should fight Fabio [as he’s ranked No.2 with the WBO]. That’s a great fight for Fabio.”

Usyk, now 39, has already outlined how he desires to close his profession. A fight with Rico Verhoeven is targeted for May 23, followed by a bout with the winner of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois on May 9 for the vacant WBO title he once held.

A 3rd meeting with Tyson Fury, whom Usyk outpointed twice in 2024, stays into consideration provided each proceed winning.

That leaves Itauma outside the immediate picture despite his standing as one in every of the division’s leading prospects. He returns on March 28 against Jermaine Franklin, a step that can test his progress against a durable opponent.

Itauma has the ability and hand speed, but he still needs rounds against men who can push him back and make him rebuild his stance under pressure.

Chisora’s Wardley suggestion brings its own complication, with each fighters linked to trainer Ben Davison. Itauma has acknowledged that a route through Dubois, should he beat Wardley, may offer a cleaner path toward a title.

At heavyweight, fighters are frequently brought through British and European level before moving into title contention.
