Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to sign 4 players in the summertime transfer window.

Following a disappointing begin to the season, United have been one of the in-form teams in England since Michael Carrick’s appointment as caretaker manager in January.

Carrick has taken the Red Devils back into the top-four places and it has been suggested United could even catch local rivals Manchester City and finish second.

Manchester United are yet to make your mind up on Ruben Amorim’s everlasting alternative but whoever gets the gig will look to bolster the squad in the summertime.

Ferdinand has revealed his 4 ‘priorities’ for United, urging his former club to sign two midfielders, a brand new forward and a full-back when the transfer market reopens.

Quite a lot of top midfielders have been linked with moves to Old Trafford as Casemiro has announced he’s leaving and Manuel Ugarte has been tipped to follow the Brazilian out of the exit door.

‘If United go and get 4 players in the subsequent window and two of those are starters, then I feel that’s a practical transfer window,’ Ferdinand said on his podcast.

‘If I was the club, my priorities can be two central midfielders, one who starts and perhaps a younger one who you may blood in here and there around Bruno [Fernandes], Kobbie [Mainoo] and the one you usher in.

‘I might also go for an additional forward, a younger one who’s going to be more of a back-up to what we’ve already got. And I might go for a full-back.

‘That’s it. I do know you may say you wish ten latest players and most positions will be improved but I don’t think you wish an enormous revamp, it’s still rather a lot but that’s realistic.’

Newcastle United duo Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have each been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks.

But Ferdinand views Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson as his first-choice goal for the midfield position.

‘Starting of the season everyone was talking about [Carlos] Baleba, he seems to have gone off the boil just a little bit form sensible,’ Ferdinand said last week.

‘Elliot Anderson, he seems to have jumped to the front of the queue. I feel he’s an exquisite player.

‘I feel Elliot Anderson is the correct type not only of player but character, I thin he’d be a great addition to the squad.

‘Tonali is a giant talent that everyone seems to be talking about, Guimaraes is one other big talent that everyone seems to be talking about.

‘But I just think the variety of midfielder United need is someone who is a little more all-action, who can cover ground, who’s dynamic, who is strong, strong, who can drive a team.

‘Right away Anderson appears to be ticking those boxes. But I feel there are a number of other young guns on the market who I won’t mention their names yet because I don’t want anyone else to get on that scent.’
