Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the Mumbai Indians team bus was mobbed by cheering fans in Mumbai, forcing a traffic halt and highlighting the extreme “Hitman” craze for Rohit Sharma. Viral video footage shows a smiling Sharma recording the gang, which was chanting support alongside teammates like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.

Rohit Sharma had a mixed campaign in IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians, showing glimpses of his class but lacking consistency throughout the season. While he played a couple of impactful innings, he couldn’t dominate consistently as an opener, which affected his overall numbers.

For IPL 2026, Rohit Sharma has focused on fitness and batting rhythm, spending long hours within the nets on the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians will depend on his experience to deliver strong starts this season.

Mumbai Indians Strengthened as Jasprit Bumrah Joins Ahead of IPL 2026 Opener

Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has joined the Mumbai Indians squad just ahead of their opening match of the Indian Premier League 2026 season against Kolkata Knight Riders on the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

In response to reports from The Indian Express, the 32-year-old linked up with the team on Friday evening and is about to attend his first training session on Saturday. He didn’t participate in Friday’s practice, as he had been directed to report back to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where his workload has been closely monitored.

“He has joined the MI on Friday night, and he can be coming for practice on Saturday,” a source confirmed.

Jasprit Bumrah played a vital part in India’s triumph on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, earning the Player of the Final award against Latest Zealand. Following medical advice, he spent a couple of days on the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to give attention to strength and conditioning.

With series against Afghanistan and a tour of England coming up, the board is closely monitoring Jasprit Bumrah’s workload and staying in contact in the course of the IPL. The pacer, who has 186 wickets for the Mumbai Indians, stays key for the season, because the team held an intense training session on the Wankhede Stadium.

Former captain Rohit Sharma, current skipper Hardik Pandya, and India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav all had prolonged batting sessions. Meanwhile, overseas players Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner are yet to affix the squad. Notably, Mumbai Indians haven’t won their opening match of the IPL since 2012.
