Yoel Romero’s bare-knuckle boxing loss set to be reviewed after fan backlash

The previous UFC middleweight title challenger was shockingly defeated in his IBA Bare-Knuckle boxing debut on Saturday.

This past Saturday, Yoel Romero returned to competition when he made his debut in IBA Bare-Knuckle, headlining IBA Bare-Knuckle 4.

The event in St. Petersburg, Russia, was made even greater earlier this week when it was announced that Jon Jones has partnered with the promotion, becoming an envoy.

Fans were left stunned when following five rounds of motion, Vagab Vagabov was awarded the win, handing ‘The Soldier of God’ his second loss in a row.

Romero’s loss set to be reviewed on account of backlash

In the course of the fight, the 48-year-old knocked down his Russian opponent and on the technique to rating one other impressive win.

And that’s why when Vagabov was awarded the unanimous decision win, fans were left shocked and started to boo the choice.

The interviewer following the fight even admitted that he thought the previous UFC star did enough to select up the win.

Nevertheless, now just hours faraway from the fight, IBA Bare-Knuckle have revealed that they shall be reviewing the controversial decision.

“After a wave of negative reactions to the results of Yoel Romero’s fight last night in St. Petersburg, Russia, IBA President Umar Kremlev announced that a special commission will review the bout and that the victory may be taken away from Vagab Vagabov, who was declared the winner after five-rounds of motion,” Red Corner MMA revealed.

Following his win, Vagabov called out Jones for a bare-knuckle boxing fight, despite the indisputable fact that the previous UFC champion is now his boss.

Ahead of the fight, Vagabov claimed that he choked out Jones during training prior to now, nevertheless, Jones disputed the claim.

And when he was called out by the Russian, he made it clear that he has no desire of fighting in bare-knuckle boxing despite his ongoing UFC feud.

At this point, it’s unclear what Romero’s next move shall be, having been involved in several different competitions over the previous few years, from MMA to wrestling, with bare-knuckle boxing fights in between.
