Joseph Duggar’s bond has been set after his arrest on child molestation charges.
“He’s asking to be treated as fairly as anyone else, no matter his status in the tv industry,” Duggar’s lawyer said in the course of the arraignment in Bay County, Florida, in line with Page Six.
Duggar’s lawyer shared that the family is “asking for probably the most reasonable bond,” adding, “He has no criminal history in any way.”
The State Attorney’s Office prosecutor, meanwhile, noted that the allegations are “a serious charge [from] the kid.”
“We ask there be a no-contact [policy] in place with the victim, in addition to no contact with any minors,” the prosecutor said. “While he doesn’t have a criminal history and no ties to the community … he was on vacation and stayed here a brief time frame. … We ask for a considerable bond.”
Duggar’s bond was ultimately set at $600,000. The judge also ordered that Duggar have “no contact with the alleged victim” and “no unsupervised contact with any minors under the age of 18.”
Duggar was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim lower than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by an individual 18 years or older. The arrest got here after a 14-year-old girl alleged that he molested her once they were on a 2020 vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Duggar didn’t enter a plea when appearing in court virtually on March 20 and waived his right to an extradition hearing. Days later, Duggar entered a written plea of not guilty and requested a jury trial, per records viewed by Us Weekly on Sunday, March 29. Two days after Joseph’s arrest, his wife, Kendra Duggar, was also arrested and released that very same day on a $1,470 bond. The pair are each facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and 4 counts of second-degree false imprisonment.
Kendra’s arrest “has nothing to do with Joseph’s” molestation charge, a source with knowledge of the case exclusively told Us on March 21. The insider claimed that “one precipitated the opposite.”
“After his charge, they routinely do a house study if minors live there. They got here to her house,” the source said. “Apparently, that they had two rooms where the lock of the doorknob was on the surface as an alternative of inside. They arrested her and took her kids for that, saying it’s evidence that she wrongly detains her kids.”
A spokesperson for the Duggar family told Us in a press release, “[Kendra’s] is a misdemeanor charge totally unrelated to the Florida case.”
