CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a free Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation 5 Pro update is arriving tomorrow, April 8. Players have been asking for this one for a very long time, and the update brings 4K visuals, advanced ray tracing, and three distinct graphics modes to Night City on the improved hardware. With Cyberpunk 2077 currently available within the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and recently joining Game Pass, there’s no shortage of how to experience it.
The update takes advantage of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which upscales each pixel using AI to deliver sharper visuals across Night City. On the ray tracing front, the team implemented BVH8 support for ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, bringing the sport’s neon-soaked aesthetic closer to CD Projekt Red’s original artistic vision. Lighting has all the time been a core a part of what makes Cyberpunk 2077 look the way in which it does, and the PlayStation 5 Pro upgrade should make a noticeable difference, especially during Night City’s transitions from day to dusk.
The three graphics modes give players options depending on their priorities. Ray Tracing Pro enables all available ray tracing enhancements, targeting 40 FPS on VRR-enabled displays or 30 FPS otherwise. It’s essentially the most visually advanced version of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Performance mode goes in the opposite direction, pushing as much as 90 FPS on VRR displays while maintaining high image quality. For many who desire a balance, Ray Tracing mode offers select ray tracing features while holding a smooth 60 FPS.
CD Projekt Red has come a good distance with Cyberpunk 2077 since its rough launch in December 2020. The sport has sold over 35 million copies and a sequel is now in pre-production. Considering what number of updates and enhancements the team has shipped through the years, it’s clear they aren’t done giving Night City the eye it deserves.
