Paul Scholes believes there isn’t a query latest Arsenal star Max Dowman should go to the World Cup and says there shouldn’t be one other English player together with his ‘ability’.

Dowman has been named as a possible bolter in England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup after his breakthrough on the Emirates Stadium.

The midfielder became the second youngest player in Premier League history when he made his Arsenal debut initially of the season, with only teammate Ethan Nwaneri playing within the competition at a younger age.

Dowman has made an additional eight appearances for Arsenal since his first-team debut, making Premier League history because the youngest ever goalscorer within the 2-0 win over Everton last month.

Mikel Arteta has been understandably cautious with Dowman’s game-time given he remains to be in school but there have still been calls for Tuchel to take the Arsenal wonderkid to the World Cup.

Manchester United legend and ex-England midfielder Scholes is firmly in that camp, insisting he would pick the ‘unbelievable’ and ‘sensible’ teenager.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes, who earned 66 England caps, said: ‘How good is Max Dowman? He’s unbelievable.

‘Do you’re thinking that he must be within the England squad for the World Cup? Take a look at Spain with Lamine Yamal… get him in!

‘We’ve not got a player like Dowman. I feel Thomas Tuchel is the kind of manager who might take him. Did you see his goals for the England U20s?’

Tuchel is blessed with options in midfielder and within the attacking areas, with the likes of Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford and Morgan Rogers all set to go to the World Cup.

Asked who Dowman must be picked ahead of, Scholes added: ‘Anyone, I don’t care. I feel he’s sensible. Spain would do it and Spain are successful.

‘I’d take him all day long, I don’t think there’s an English player with the power he’s got. He floats past people.’

Scholes’ former teammate Rio Ferdinand also believes Dowman must be a part of England’s World Cup squad that travels to the US this summer.

Asked concerning the impact Dowman can have for club and country over the subsequent few months, Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel: ‘I feel he has to go [to the World Cup]. I feel he’s special.

‘He’s doing the identical thing he did through all ages group within the Premier League against grown men. He’s been doing the identical thing in training against Arsenal players who’re top of the Premier League.

‘Even the players there are going “wow”, even the manager is saying he’s not seen anything like this from a player so young. It’s crazy.

‘Those talents should go – Michael Owen went to the World Cup young and blew up the whole world. You should give these talents the experience and even when he went there and didn’t play it could be useful for him to get used to the environment and playing at a tournament.

‘That might be hugely helpful; we’ve seen players do this before and profit from it. I didn’t play a minute on the 1998 World Cup but that have really helped on the 2002 tournament.

‘I’d like to see him go – it could be so exciting for English football. I’d 100% take him – take a look at Spain with Lamine Yamal, I’m not comparing them but they saw a special talent and took him after which he blew everyone’s socks off.’

For now Dowman will hope to assist boyhood club Arsenal clinch their first Premier League title since 2004 – five years before he was born.

The Gunners boast a nine-point lead over second-placed Manchester City ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

Arsenal lost back-to-back games for the primary time this season either side of the international break but got back to winning ways against Champions League rivals Sporting on Tuesday night.
