The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their resurgence in IPL 2026 with a comprehensive 32-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. This win marks a major turnaround for the defending champions, while KKR stays winless after five matches, declining at the underside of the points table.
After being put in to bat, CSK posted a formidable 192/5, due to a mix of youthful aggression and experienced anchoring. The CSK innings was ignited by young opener Ayush Mhatre, who played a blistering cameo of 38 runs off just 17 balls, striking at a remarkable 223.53.
His knock, which included six boundaries and two sixes, set the proper tone within the Powerplay. Sanju Samson provided the backbone of the innings, top-scoring with a well-constructed 48 off 32 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes), while Dewald Brevis made a successful return to the side with an impactful 41 off 29 deliveries.
KKR’s bowling struggled to contain the flow of runs, though Kartik Tyagi claimed 2 for 35 and veteran Sunil Narine remained economical with figures of 1 for 21 in his 4 overs. Defending 192, CSK’s bowling attack, led by their spinners, proved to be too clinical for a struggling KKR lineup.

Champion team to the underside of the table. That’s what happens while you let go of a winning captain like Shreyas Iyer. The center order looks clueless against spin, and the “intention” is missing. KKR management, was that ₹25 Cr value it? pic.twitter.com/yLJbkbinjL

One other win.. But just a little disillusioned. Rutu must know which batsman to send at what time because we should always have scored atleast 215 today. Fielding was avrg but we made up.Our bowling is finally looking good too. Anyhow we move on 💛💛 #CSK pic.twitter.com/0qSgQYXZaR

KKR should just start preparing for next season, move from NPAs & bring some good replacements as injury subs identical to CSK did last yr. This yr, KKR is by far the more severe team & they should work quite a bit on themselves.#CSKvsKKR pic.twitter.com/yQrYZij4uo

Noor Ahmad’s Milestone 3-Wicket Haul Powers CSK to Decisive Win Over KKR
Noor Ahmad was the standout performer, delivering a match-winning spell of 3 for 21 in his 4 overs. In the method, Ahmad reached the milestone of 50 IPL wickets, cementing his status as a premier leg-spinner within the tournament. He received excellent support from Akeal Hosein, who took 1 for 26, and Anshul Kamboj, who chipped in with 2 for 32.
KKR’s chase never truly threatened the goal as they were restricted to 160/7. Other than a temporary middle-order resistance by Ramandeep Singh (35 off 23) and an unbeaten 31 off 22 from Rovman Powell, the Knights lacked the explosive partnerships needed to chase down the high total.
The loss further complicates KKR’s playoff ambitions, while CSK’s clinical 32-run win signals their return to form as they climb the ladder within the 2026 season.
