Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer produced a surprising fielding effort to dismiss Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya during their IPL 2026 clash at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 16. The 31-year-old displayed exceptional athleticism near the boundary, putting in a full-length dive.
While in motion, Iyer smartly released the ball to teammate Xavier Bartlett before stepping over the ropes, ensuring the catch was accomplished legally. From the MI dugout, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma initially anticipated the shot would clear the boundary for six, but were left amazed by Iyer’s remarkable effort within the deep.
The moment unfolded within the 18th over of MI’s innings when Marco Jansen cleverly reduced his pace and bowled it wide. Pandya attempted a robust stroke but mistimed it off the toe-end, sending the ball looping over the bowler. Iyer nearly pulled off a sensational solo catch, and although the scorecard credited Bartlett, the brilliance of the dismissal belonged entirely to Iyer.

Quinton de Kock’s century powers MI to 196 against Shreyas Iyer’s PBKS
Led by Quinton de Kock, a composed batting effort guided the Mumbai Indians to 195/6 against the Punjab Kings of their IPL 2026 clash. The left-hander made an instantaneous impact after coming in for injured Rohit Sharma within the playing XI. He hammered an unbeaten 112 off 60 balls at a strike rate of 186.87, including seven sixes and eight fours.
Naman Dhir also impressed with 50 off 31 deliveries, smashing three sixes and an equal variety of fours. The pair placed on a 122-run partnership for the third wicket after the hosts were reeling at 12/2. Arshdeep Singh starred with the ball for Punjab, ending with figures of three/22.
Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh picked up one wicket each. Punjab remain unbeaten this season. They’ve won three of their previous matches, other than a rain-hit game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Shreyas Iyer-led side chased down 220 against Sunrisers Hyderabad of their last outing.
They at the moment are chasing a 3rd straight win against Mumbai within the T20 league. Meanwhile, MI have managed only one victory in IPL 2026. They defeated the Knight Riders of their opening game but have since suffered three consecutive losses.
