Sergio Aguero has urged Julian Alvarez to hitch Barcelona this summer despite interest from Arsenal.

Alvarez, 26, left Manchester City to hitch Atletico Madrid two years in a £81million move to the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Argentina international has helped fire Atletico to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they are going to meet the Gunners but doubts over his long-term future on the club have emerged this season.

Arsenal are weighing up a move for the World Cup winner with sporting director Andrea Berta directly involved within the move that took Alvarez to Atletico 18 months ago.

While the Gunners spent big on Viktor Gyokeres last summer, their frontline has looked unconvincing in the course of the title run-in and still a way in need of the standard of their European rivals.

Barcelona are also eager about signing Alvarez as they seek for a long-term substitute for Robert Lewandowski.

The Catalan giants are huge admirers of the player but with a proposal in the surplus of €100million (£86m) needed to even tempt Atletico into doing business, their financial position could leave a deal out of their reach.

Alvarez can have a giant decision to make on his future at the top of the season.

Aguero, who made the move from Manchester City to Barcelona, describes his fellow Argentine as a ‘complete’ player and believes a move to the Camp Nou could be ‘perfect’ for him.

‘Julian could be a superb signing for any team today,’ Aguero told Stake.

‘For Barca obviously every part relies on whether he feels comfortable. There may be the player side and the club side. If things go well he’ll be a champion of the Champions League sooner or later.

‘It’s very difficult for the player there, very complicated.

‘But when Barca are him and he’s doing well, he suits perfectly. He loves football and has something not many strikers have: a really dedicated defensive side. Julian is a really complete player.’
