The Buffalo Sabres took a 2-1 series lead over the Boston Bruins after Alex Lyon stopped 24 of 25 shots to preserve a 2-1 win. There was one instance where Lyon stopped Victor Arvidsson on a penalty shot. Lyon had an NSFW chirp on the veteran winger after stuffing his shot attempt, in line with X user Kieran.
“F****** loser, you are a f****** loser,’ Alex Lyon to Viktor Arvidsson #Sabres,” Kieran wrote on X.
It was the primary start of the series for Lyon, who stopped all seven shots he faced in Game 2 when he relieved Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who allowed 4 goals on 20 shots. The poor performance by Luukonen opened the chance for Lyon. He captilized by containing the Bruins, not even letting David Pastrnak get on the scoresheet.
It was a much-needed win for the Sabres, after they lost 4-2 in Game 2. Likewise, it also returned home-ice advantage to the Sabres, putting them in a superb position. Lyon had a productive season, going 20-10-4 with a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906. While he has mainly been the 1B goalie to Luukonen, he has shined when given the possibility.
It was 1-0 Bruins when the penalty shot was awarded. After Lyon made the stop, it gave the Sabres the momentum. With that momentum, the Sabres tied the sport on a goal by Bowen Byram. When the third period commenced, Alex Tuch gave the Sabres the lead with a goal to offer Buffalo the lead. It was a lead they may not give up.
The Sabres now lead the Best-of-7 Series 2-1. With Game 4 on the horizon, they hope they will gain a commanding 3-1 series lead before it shifts back to Buffalo for Game 5. Lyon could likely get one other start after a solid start.
