Mitch Marner gets brutally honest on play despite Game 1 win

The Vegas Golden Knights are out to a superb start of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Anaheim Geese. Vegas has a 1-0 lead, after defeating Anaheim 3-1 on Monday. Despite the win, Golden Knights winger Mitch Marner is on the lookout for more together with his team’s play.

“I don’t think anyone in that locker room is satisfied with that win,” Marner said, per NHL.com. “We all know we will play lots higher. I don’t think we got to our game in any respect. We gave them some beauty, and Carter made some massive saves.”

Marner scored an empty-net goal to assist seal the win for his team. It was a key win for Vegas, because the team was playing at home to open the series.

“It’s Game 1. It’s (about) which team finds its game the quickest that has the advantage,” Golden Knights coach John Tortorella said. “We’re fortunate. Fortunate that we found a option to win. They played well. A few of it needed to do with them. They played well, but we now have some things to work on.”

Marner finished the sport with two points. He also posted an assist, by sending the puck to Brett Howden who scored a goal within the second period.

“I used to be just taking a look at Mitch straight away,” Howden said. “He made an awesome play. I used to be sort of behind the play, and I could feel that he knew I used to be coming late. I used to be going to get there a bit earlier, and he waited it out, and I just tried driving back away.”

Game 2 of this series is on Wednesday in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights skated past the Utah Mammoth in the primary round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
