The Montreal Canadiens took home an enormous win in Game 2 against the Buffalo Sabres. Jakub Dobes made 28 saves on the night to maintain the Sabres offense at bay. Alex Newhook scored twice, as well to help within the on-ice effort. Off the ice, though, it seems that head coach Martin St. Louis had a huge impact on this game.
Dobes spoke with reporters after Game 2. And he mentioned a speech that his head coach gave that left quite the impression on him and the Canadiens as an entire.
“I can not inform you (what was said), but Marty had an unbelievable speech before the sport today. I’ll probably remember it for possibly the remaining of my profession. Possibly for the remaining of the series, of course. The speech was really good, so hopefully he brings something for next game, as well,” the Canadiens goalie said, via Sportsnet.
Montreal supported Dobes early on on this game. Newhook scored his first goal a bit greater than two minutes into the competition. A pair minutes later, veteran defenseman Mike Matheson doubled the lead with a shot from the purpose.
The Habs continued the pressure until they broke through again early within the second. Newhook scored again to make it a 3-0 game. At the top of the second, Zach Benson scored to offer the Sabres a bit little bit of life.
Nonetheless, a costly turnover by Tage Thompson resulted in Alexandre Carrier making it a 4-1 game. From there, it was all Habs, they usually were capable of put the of entirety on the win with an empty net goal.
