The Carolina Hurricanes’ biggest struggle lately has been getting over the third-round hump within the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After going 8-0 through the primary two playoff rounds and now facing a lengthy break, it’s clear that despite their shortcomings previously, the top coach’s messaging hasn’t gone stale. For Rod Brind’Amour, the direction for his team has never been clearer, in keeping with NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti.
“It’s an enormous accomplishment, and, straight away, you might want to soak that a part of it in since it is (huge),” Brind’Amour said. “The season is so long. There’s that 82-game season we speak about that nobody really gives as much credit for, and yet this team has played well for eight months. It didn’t just get hot at the tip. It has been night in and night out like this, and to me, that is probably the thing I’m most happy with with this group. And now, here we’re. We have got to search out a strategy to get that next step. And that is obviously easier said than done.”
It’s unlucky for the Hurricanes that nobody can look past their Eastern Conference Final losses. Brind’Amour is constructing an important culture in Carolina, and the way in which they play is conducive to success. It’s hard to not imagine that the most effective coaches in the sport won’t break through soon.
The Hurricanes await the winner of the Montreal Canadiens-Buffalo Sabres series to see who they’ll face within the Eastern Conference Final this season. With the series sitting at 2-1, the Hurricanes are preparing for a possible 10+ day break if the series goes the space.
