Despite a rare off day with the bat for Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a 201-run goal against Punjab Kings on the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 14.
Rohit managed 25 runs off 26 balls, but sensible knocks from Ryan Rickelton, Tilak Varma and Will Jacks guided MI to a powerful victory. The five-time champions, despite being out of playoff contention, produced a robust all-round performance.
Meanwhile, a video from the MI dressing room has gone viral on social media, where Rohit was seen addressing the players and support staff. Through the interaction, he humorously mocked his own slow-paced innings while appreciating the team’s effort within the chase.
“Guys, great win, it was an entire team effort with the bat. It was good to see everyone chip in while I used to be having fun with my little bit of Test cricket,” Rohit quipped with a straight face, leaving the opposite MI players and support staff in splits.
Rohit, nonetheless, was filled with praise for Ryan Rickelton, who smashed 48 runs off just 23 balls to make up for his slower innings. The duo added 61 runs in just 39 deliveries, helping Mumbai Indians keep the required run rate under control.
“Rick, as at all times he’s been doing, was great to observe because that begin to us was necessary. It was not a simple pitch but the best way he played, I feel that start gave us that momentum to take the innings forward so,” he said.
Rick as at all times 🤩
A performance deserving of the popularity it received 👏
