Actress Lavina Tandon has steadily built a various profession across television and OTT platforms with shows like Naagin, Undekhi, and Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki – Ganesh Kartikey. The actress continues to stay vocal concerning the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the Jodha Akbar star opened up about social media followers influencing casting decisions and the way the industry has evolved through the years. Scroll on to know what the actress needed to share.
Speaking about whether follower count now plays a task in casting, Lavina Tandon admitted that she has personally noticed the shift during auditions. She said, “Na, aisa definitely ho raha hai. Kyunki jab hum auditions dete hain, humein kabhi-kabhi ek form type diya jata hai fill karne ke liye. Ab WhatsApp pe name, availability, age, height, falana-dhimkana toh hota hi hai, aur uske neeche Instagram profile bhi maanga jata hai, jo pehle nahi hota tha.”
The actress further explained that while not every casting team focuses on social media numbers, some production houses and ad projects do consider them. Sharing her observations, she added, “So yeah, woh cheez maine definitely notice ki hai. Essential ye nahi keh rahi ki har koi maangta hai, lekin kuch-kuch casting log, kuch-kuch production houses maangte hain. Mostly kabhi-kabhi ads mein hota hai yeh. Pehle Instagram tha hi kahan, aur itna famous bhi nahi tha.”
Lavina also revealed that she initially struggled to just accept the thought of talent being measured through follower counts. She explained, “Aur primary aisi person hoon jo dono perspectives se sochti hoon. Initially jab yeh start hua tha, mujhe bhi laga ki yaar yeh toh galat hai. Essential actor hoon, Instagram mera talent showcase karne ka platform nahi hai. Aap kaise meri talent ko followers ke basis pe judge kar sakte ho? Mujhe audition ke basis pe work do.”
Lavina Tandon On Producers Prioritising Followers Over Talent
Nevertheless, over time, the actress tried to grasp the business side of the industry as well. Explaining her thought process, Lavina shared, “But phir kyunki yeh mere mental space ko disturb kar raha tha, maine socha ki yeh ho kyun raha hai. Essential khud se baat karti hoon, mujhe aadat hai apne aap se discuss karne. Maine socha, agar primary kal ko producer hoti, toh primary do cheezein dekhti, ya toh primary good art bana rahi hoon ya paisa bana rahi hoon. Agar paisa bana rahi hoon, toh primary us hisaab se hi chalungi. Agar kisi actor ke 5 followers hain aur kisi ke 50 hain, toh naturally producer ko zyada profit dikhega jisko zyada reach hai.”
At the identical time, she stressed that audiences today can easily discover real talent on screen. Lavina said, “So unke perspective se yeh fair hai. Lekin audience ab idiot nahi hai. Camera sach dikha deta hai ki kaun real hai aur kaun nahi. Ab yeh cheez thodi kam ho rahi hai, kyunki influencers aur creators bhi ab acting space mein aa rahe hain. Lekin dono worlds alag hain. Essential ek actor hoke content creation bhi try karti hoon, grow bhi karna chahti hoon Instagram pe, but acting aur content creation dono different skills hain.”
The actress concluded by highlighting the difference between actors and content creators, while also advocating for balance in casting. She explained, “Creators ke editing aur creativity skills bahut alag hote hain. Actors ka craft alag hota hai. Dono ko mix nahi karna chahiye. Balance hona chahiye—thode actors lo, thode creators lo.”
