Before Kyle Busch’s unexpected death, the NASCAR driver spent his final days with family members and competing in his sport.
NASCAR confirmed that Busch died at age 41 on May 21, 2026, after being hospitalized with a “severe illness.”
“We’re saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and certainly one of our sport’s biggest and fiercest drivers,” NASCAR said in an announcement via X. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the whole motorsports community.”
Busch is survived by wife Samantha in addition to their son, Brexton, 11, and daughter, Lennix, 4.
An official explanation for death has not yet been revealed.

Busch’s final Instagram post was a celebratory message to Brexton in honor of his eleventh birthday on May 18.
“Comfortable Birthday Brexton!!!” the racecar driver wrote alongside a carousel of photos of Busch and his family. “Your mom & I are so pleased with who you’re turning out to be! You’re one of the best kid on & off the track, you amaze us day by day. Keep doing what you’re doing and there isn’t any limit to what you’ll accomplish! Love you buddy!”

While celebrating Mother’s Day 2026, Busch also wished daughter Lennix a blissful birthday.
“Comfortable Birthday to our crazy Lennix,” he wrote via Instagram on May 10. “You retain us laughing, keep us on our toes, and one way or the other make day by day brighter at the identical time. I’m lucky to do life with you girls. Love you all greater than you understand!!”

Busch competed in his final match on the NASCAR All-Star Race on May 17 on the Dover International Speedway. Two days before, he participated in a truck series where he won the EcoSave 200.

“You never know when the last one is,” he told reporters of his legacy on the raceway.
Kyle Busch Was Hospitalized Before His Death
Busch’s family announced via X that the driving force was hospitalized because of a “severe illness.”
“Kyle has experienced a severe illness leading to hospitalization,” the statement posted on May 21 read. “He’s currently undergoing treatment and is not going to compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this case.”
Busch was scheduled to compete within the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24. Busch’s team, Richard Childress Racing, announced that Austin Hill could be taking his place.
“Kyle Busch’s health is our upmost priority and he and his family have the total resources of RCR behind them,” RCR said in an announcement posted via X. “Kyle is an integral a part of our organization and we wish him a protected and speedy recovery.
