Teams are involved in Buffalo Sabres goaltender Devon Levi, including the Ottawa Senators
Kevin Weekes: Have been told that Buffalo Sabres goaltender Devon Levi is getting some trade interest from several teams. The Ottawa Senators are one among the teams interested.
Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Citizen: The Ottawa Senators could turn to the Buffalo Sabres for his or her backup to Linus Ullmark next season, in response to Weekes’ report. Senators GM Steve Staios said that adding a reliable backup is a priority.
Levi has a yr left on his contract at $812,500 and would require waivers if sent to the AHL, which is probably going why Sabres GM Jarmo Kekalainen is testing the waters to see what teams would offer up.
If the Sabres desire a goaltender back, they might ask the Senators for Leevi Merilainen, who’s a pending RFA that also requires waivers and who struggled last season.

Ilya Mikheyev’s rights can be found if someone desires to beat free agency
NHL Rumour Report: Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast on Chicago Blackhawks pending UFA Ilya Mikheyev: “Chicago probably isn’t going to find a way to sign Ilya Mikheyev, and so his rights can be found if any team desires to discuss with him upfront of free agency.”
Yr-to-year contracts make sense for Sidney Crosby
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: After the season, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said he’ll be taking it as a year-by-year approach. He’s got one yr left on his deal, so could that mean that next yr could possibly be his last.
The soon to be 39-year old said: “Under no circumstances.”
Crosby adds.
“Yeah, I’m saying yr to yr based on contracts,” he explained. “It just seems to make sense. I mean, it could change. We’ll see. Kyle (Dubas) and I haven’t even talked about it. But I’ll talk with Pat (Brisson) and Kyle later this summer. We’ll discuss it and do what is sensible. If it does make sense to sign for a few years, then we’ll do this.”

Shorter contracts give GM Kyle Dubas more options and adaptability. Crosby has said he only desires to play for the Penguins. Crosby is 160 points behind Jaromir Jagr for second all-time in NHL scoring.
