Maria Kanellis recently reflected on the memorable moment when Batista interrupted her acceptance speech on the 2009 Slammy Awards, revealing that the previous World Champion felt bad about having to participate within the segment.
Throughout the 2009 Slammy Awards edition of WWE Monday Night RAW, Maria was voted Diva of the Yr and commenced delivering her acceptance speech before Batista cut her off in a segment parodying the infamous moment when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift on the MTV Video Music Awards.
Speaking during a recent interview with Wrestling Life Online, Maria looked back on the segment and shared that Batista actually felt terrible about interrupting her during what was meant to be a special moment.
Maria explained that Batista was apologetic backstage and uncomfortable with having to chop off her speech, despite it being a part of the planned storyline entertainment for the show. The segment has since develop into one in all the more talked-about moments from that yr’s Slammy Awards episode. Maria said,
“Yes, and he felt terrible about having to do it. Yes. Well, on the time, it had just happened (Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift). That whole thing had just happened, and I didn’t know he was going to try this. So I, just like the look on my face is the look on my face, after which after he apologized and he’s like, I’m sorry, I didn’t really, but he was so good. He was so good to me and he was so good to my family. He bought my mom dinner on Mother’s Day, like such a pleasant man. There was like an enormous group of us and he ended up buying my mom dinner because she had got here to the show when it was Mother’s Day weekend. So, but yeah, he felt terrible. It was terrible.”
