The Carolina Hurricanes simply refused to lose in Game 2 of their 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Final matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Hurricanes could have folded after giving up the primary two goals of the competition, each to Brett Howden. They went scoreless in the primary two periods and were still trailing the visiting Golden Knights 10 minutes into the ultimate frame. Logan Stankoven broke the silence of the Carolina’s offense with under 10 minutes left in regulation, scoring an unassisted even-strength goal to chop the Hurricanes’ deficit in half, 2-1.
Stankoven’s goal did not only light up the lamp; it woke up Carolina’s attack, because the Hurricanes followed up his goal with not only one but two consecutive scores from Mark Jankowski and Jordan Staal.
It was all in regards to the intangibles if you happen to ask Stankoven, whose 10 goals within the playoffs lead all Hurricanes players.
