Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press: The Winnipeg Jets are talking to Shane Doan a couple of position inside management. They’re still exploring the thought, but there’s a mutual interest.
It’s been 15 seasons with Kevin Cheveldayoff as GM and Larry Simmons and Craig Heisinger as AGMs. Doan had been with the Maple Leafs for the past three seasons, but mutually parted ways after they hired John Chayka as GM. He did discuss with the Canucks before they brought in Ryan Johnson and the Sedin’s.

Newly named Nashville Predators GM on trade protection
Alex Daugherty: Nashville Predators named a brand new GM this week, and Chris MacFarland was asked about trade protection and the way do cope with it in the event that they need to move someone.

Daugherty: “Players with trade protection, what’s your sort of strategy on either handing out that trade protection, coping with it when you could have a dissatisfied player, that sort of thing?
MacFarland: “Yeah, we had a, we’ve got a variety of guys in Colorado that had, whether it’s a no-trade or a no move clause. I believe it’s just it’s a part of the CBA. It’s when a player gets to, as you guys know, when he gets to be that age, that it becomes a part of the negotiation strategy from the players and the agents.
And I believe you understand, for obvious reasons, in the event that they’re committing to you, they need to know. They’ve families, they’re human beings before everything, before they’re players, and it just becomes a part of it.
I, you understand, I believe when there’s only a method, if a player is unhappy or it’s not working for reason A, B, or C, it’s honesty. It’s transparency. You’ve gotten to be honest with players, you could have to, you understand, be yourself. The players are smart, they see through, you understand, see all the way through, you understand, what I call nonsense, or in case you’re being, you understand, you’re not being true to yourself, variety of thing
