Rohit Sharma Does Not Must Prove Anything, Says His Childhood Coach in Big Remark
Dinesh Lad, the early coach of former India captain Rohit Sharma, feels the batter should ignore criticism over his fitness and form and give attention to having fun with his game to bounce back strongly in his preferred World Cup format next 12 months. Rohit has recently struggled in ODIs, scoring just 61 runs in three innings against Recent Zealand, which has led to scrutiny over his form.
“Being a coach, I don’t think he must prove anything to anyone. He badly desires to win the ODI World Cup. I even have spoken to him and he could be very clear about what he wants in his profession. I don’t think he must prove his fitness. Despite the age factor, he continues to be fit enough,” Lad told PTI Videos.
“Critics will keep talking. It’s their job. India needs Rohit’s experience if we wish to achieve the finals. Technically there isn’t any problem. Furthermore, in 50 overs cricket, it’s worthwhile to settle a bit.”
“Rohit has a method that lets him take his time, get set, after which speed up. Even within the IPL, he showed his full range—he wasn’t just hitting boundaries but additionally rotating strike with singles and doubles. I don’t really understand the critics’ arguments. In my view, he should definitely be a part of the team.”
Lad also not directly responded to former India selector Saba Karim, who had suggested that Rohit would wish to place in significant effort and prove his fitness and form to remain in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup plans.
“Why are the following six months crucial only for under Rohit? It’s crucial for all players. Everyone must play well to retain their place within the team. I even have a 100 per cent guarantee that Rohit will certainly play the 50 overs World Cup in 2027.”
“He’ll do well during these six months and the later months as well. In case you give him a chance he’ll do well.” Lad added, “I don’t think Rohit must prove anything to anyone. He has retired from Tests and T20Is, not ODI. And in whatever ODI matches he had played last, he did well. I don’t think there’s any pressure on him.”
