@Nylanderthews: (posted video clip) Elliotte Friedman on the NHL Network, on the Toronto Maple Leafs coaching search. They’ve spoken to over 50 people. Why does it seem so erratic?

Mike Johnson. “It’s not a matter about whether he’s smart or perhaps capable, however the Leafs coaching search basically has been so erratic. It’s tough to pinpoint what type of coach they’re in search of, and once they’re attempting to do it. And also you hear (Joe) Pavelski, and also you hear (Peter) Laviolette, and also you hear (Jay) Woodcroft.

Like who, like, what are they doing? What are they in search of? Why are they interviewing so many individuals, and taking, taking their time?

NHL Rumors: Thomas, Doan, Jets, and the Predators

Friedman: “Well, I even have no problem with taking their time. Like, take a look at Nashville, like, people were making fun of Nashville. Matt Marchese, who hosts show on our station, he was calling it, he said that the longest seek for Pope in world history was three years, and he was comparing it to the papal search. But, like, they got their guy, right?

And so, like, I don’t have an issue with anybody taking longer for those who get the appropriate person. I believe, Mike, it looks the one thing I’m really conscious of is I don’t know all the things. I do know bits and pieces. So I believe it looks erratic to us on the skin, but until you get a full picture, I don’t know if it’s erratic because it appears.

Like, I, there was a time yesterday morning, where I believed Saturday morning, where I believed they were going to rent Peter Laviolette. And now I believe there’s a good likelihood that Peter Laviolette finally ends up being the following head coach of the Kings.

They told at the very least one in every of the people who they didn’t advance to the following round, that they were in search of experience, after which I heard about Pavelski. So I’m going to guage this when that is over, versus what I hear partway through the search.”

Jason Demers: “Well, do you’re thinking that also, because you realize, Johnny mentioned we were talking, do you’re thinking that it may very well be also they’re attempting to get forged such a large net to essentially just pick everybody’s brains, to see what they really want, after which (inaudible).”

NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Bruins

Friedman: “Yes, I believe that’s totally true, and I’d do it if I used to be… So I believe Chayka said on the mix they spoke to 50, or they’d 55 people, I believe they …”

Johnson: “Are you able to even name 55 coaching candidates on the market? That’s an enormous number.”

Friedman: “As one in every of my friends said, like I can’t even name 55 individuals who would need to refer to you. And, and I believe they did zooms with like 15 or 16. And now it sounds to me like we’re gonna get a smaller group, three, five, I don’t know what, and we’ll see where we go.

Like, like I do think they talked to Patrick Roy. Like, so that they, one in every of the blokes who scouts for them is Eric Lacroix, who knows Patrick Roy rather well, so that they would have anyone on staff who knows.

But I’m sure there’s.. I, I don’t think they ever interviewed Woodcroft. I believe they considered it, and I don’t think they ever did. They, I don’t know if  they …”

Johnson: “They went 55 deep, and so they didn’t need to go to Jay Woodcroft?”

Joe Pavelski, a Coaching Candidate for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Demers: “56 is simply too much.”

Friedman: “You understand, I believe, I believe they considered it, but decided to not. And I don’t think they’ve asked on (Bruce) Cassidy. I believe they’re type of just, I believe everybody’s here just type of waiting to see. Like, like Vegas is making noise behind the scenes, like they’re not going to alter their minds. I assume everyone’s just waiting to see.”
