Peddi: Buchi Babu Sana Says Janhvi Kapoor’s Scenes Were ‘Misread’, Confirms Controversial Portions Removed

Peddi has continued to dominate the box office since its release on June 4. Nonetheless, alongside its business success, the Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer also sparked major backlash online over the portrayal of Janhvi’s character Achiyyamma. Following criticism from viewers and girls’s rights groups, director Buchi Babu Sana has now confirmed that the makers removed several controversial scenes from the film.

Buchi Babu Sana On Peddi Backlash

In an interview with Indian Express, Buchi Babu Sana addressed the criticism surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal and admitted that certain scenes had “turned misleading.”

The controversy erupted after viewers criticised the best way Achiyyamma was introduced and filmed in several portions of the movie. Social media users particularly objected to close-up shots focused on Janhvi Kapoor’s waist, navel and cleavage, together with a romantic scene during which Peddi kisses her without consent.

As criticism intensified online, the makers earlier issued a public statement apologising for the scenes and promising corrective motion. Now, Buchi Babu Sana has revealed that the team has officially removed those portions from the film. “For my part, a variety of people misread Janhvi Kapoor’s track as unnecessary in an otherwise good story.”

‘I Wanted To Show The Rawness’: Buchi Babu Defends Peddi Character Arc

The filmmaker further explained that he intentionally designed Peddi’s character to look raw and flawed to start with before eventually showing his transformation. He said, “On this film, I went a bit radical, because Peddi comes from a distant place, somewhere far-off from the hills. I wanted to point out the rawness and later correct it in the long run, saying that this guy is this fashion due to his upbringing and atmosphere. For such a personality, he thinks he has to marry the lady he loves.”

At the identical time, the director admitted that the execution of some scenes didn’t land the best way the team intended. “On this process, just a few shots turned misleading. We have now taken corrective measures to remove them, and now we have removed them.”

Neither Ram Charan nor Janhvi Kapoor has publicly reacted to the controversy to date.

Despite the backlash, Peddi has continued to perform strongly at the worldwide box office. The sports drama also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Boman Irani and Upendra Limaye in key roles.
