Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to a T20 World Cup victory, has now been dropped from the Indian T20 team. He has been removed not only from the captaincy role but in addition from the squad, with selectors reportedly considering his form over the past two years and future plans. He’s currently playing within the T20 Mumbai League, where he’s captaining Triumph Knights MNE.
During a match on June 9, a fan ran onto the sphere and touched Suryakumar’s feet, a video of which has gone viral. The incident took place in the course of the game against Eagle Thane Strikers while he was batting. The fan rushed towards him, touched his feet, and even hugged him.
After being escorted away by the umpire, Suryakumar called him back when he asked for a selfie and clicked an image with him. Watch the video here:

Within the match between Eagle Thane Strikers and Triumph Knights, Suryakumar Yadav’s team suffered a defeat. Batting first, the Thane side posted a powerful total of 172 runs, powered by Sairaj Patil’s 69-run knock. In reply, Triumph Knights were bowled out for 148 runs.
After scoring brilliantly within the previous two matches, Suryakumar was dismissed for 20 runs in the most recent game. Meanwhile, reports also suggest that Shreyas Iyer will now lead India’s T20 team following changes in leadership.
Why Shreyas Iyer Emerged as a Strong Selection for T20I Captaincy?
Shreyas Iyer’s appointment as India’s T20I captain is notable for several unusual aspects. Since his last appearance within the format in December 2023, India have gone on to win two T20 World Cups and accomplished a whole cycle under Suryakumar Yadav, who also led them to a successful title defence in March.
It’s rare for India to assign T20I captaincy to a player who has been out of the side for such a protracted period. Nevertheless, chief selector Ajit Agarkar strongly backed Iyer on Saturday, handing him leadership of a squad that now has a transparent two-year path leading as much as the subsequent T20 World Cup and the LA Olympics.
“I don’t should change my personality,” Iyer said in Mumbai in his first public response to the appointment. “I even have to be the identical person I used to be before, and never attempt to be another person or be under someone’s shadow.”
Shreyas Iyer has shown strong leadership qualities through the years. He first gained attention in 2018 when he took over the Delhi Daredevils captaincy mid-season and impressed with a standout debut as skipper within the IPL.
Since then, he has built a powerful captaincy record, including leading Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title, captaining Punjab Kings, guiding Mumbai in domestic cricket, and winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024–25. These experiences have made him well-prepared for international leadership.
