A former Brooklyn daycare director has pleaded guilty in federal court after prosecutors said she stole nearly three million dollars from her employer and spent a big chunk of it on WWE events.
The girl, Murielle Misczak, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in the USA District Court for the Eastern District of Recent York. Prosecutors said she stole greater than $2.75 million from a Brooklyn daycare where she worked.
In line with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she used that stolen money to pay for private expenses, including skilled wrestling tickets and travel for herself and her three children. Over $350,000 of the stolen funds went toward WWE events alone, and a few of that cash was used to purchase packages that allowed her kids to fulfill WWE wrestlers in person. In total, prosecutors said she spent greater than $600,000 on travel and entertainment of all types. She also spent a whole bunch of hundreds more on luxury goods, food delivery, ride sharing, and other personal expenses.
Misczak first joined the daycare in 2013 as a Program Coordinator and was promoted to Director in 2020. Prosecutors said the theft ran from January 2022 through October 2025. During that period, she redirected tuition payments into bank accounts she controlled after which moved the cash into her own personal accounts. She also tried to cover what she was doing by deleting and changing records within the daycare’s accounting systems.
U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. said she took advantage of her position and her access to the daycare’s bank accounts to fund her personal lifestyle. FBI Assistant Director in Charge James C. Barnacle Jr. also spoke out, saying that the stolen money must have gone toward supporting children and families locally.
Misczak now faces as much as 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. She has also been ordered to pay back $2,805,871 in restitution. The case has moved from allegations to a full guilty plea, but prosecutors made it clear that the most important victim here was the daycare itself and the youngsters it was purported to serve.
