Former Indian batter Kris Srikkanth backed out-of-form veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to play within the 2027 ODI World Cup squad amid the continuing series against Afghanistan. The veteran has also been excluded from the Afghanistan ODIs, raising questions on his future within the format.
Nevertheless, Jadeja has not picked up a wicket in three ODI games this yr, while making a gift of runs at over six per over. With age not on his side and other left-arm spin-bowling all-rounders like Axar Patel and debutant Harsh Dubey in the center, Jadeja’s 2027 World Cup selection isn’t a certainty.
Talking about Ravindra Jadeja, K Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “Jadeja can’t be written off yet as he’s an excellent cricketer. Nitish Kumar Reddy is a developing all-rounder. So once Hardik Pandya is back, it’ll be only certainly one of himself and Nitish. The opposite all-rounder have to be Jadeja. But Jadeja also must start performing. Yet, though he’s not at his peak, it’ll be silly to put in writing him off.”
Kris Srikkanth also backed former India captain Rohit Sharma to feature in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad if his form and fitness remain strong. Nevertheless, Rohit has been in good form even after he retired from the opposite two formats, averaging over 47 with 100 and three fifties in his last 10 innings.
“Rohit’s inclusion will rely on his form. If he keeps scoring runs, then what’s the issue? He has been scoring within the recent ODIs. He looks very fit and is timing the ball well. So you may’t jump the gun in some way. The following few months will likely be a trial-and-error period. By January or March next yr, we must always fix an inventory of 20 players for the 2027 World Cup,” concluded K Srikkanth.
