India captain Shubman Gill is impressed by the debutants, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey, in international cricket as well. After rain in Dharamsala had curtailed the ODI series opener between India and Afghanistan to a 25-over game, Brar and Dubey shone brilliant with three-fors each.

While Brar hit speeds near 150kph and got the ball to nip around with extreme pace, Dubey, the left-arm fingerspinner, dismantled Afghanistan’s innings in the center overs by denying them pace after Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed a 48-ball century as well.

“Very impressive upfront – how Gurnoor bowled, sensible pace and the best way he was swinging the ball, the type of lengths he bowled consistently,” Gill said after India took a 1-0 lead against Afghanistan. “And even Harsh as well. After, in the primary over, he went for 16-17 runs [16]… the best way he pulled the sport back, trusted himself and kept tossing the ball up. It was very impressive.”

After Dubey did well in the center overs with the ball in a rain-hit game, India maintained the chase with Gill leading with an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls. Quickfire thirties from Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul ensured India sealed the take care of ease on Saturday.

“I believe the center overs in one-day games may be very crucial,” Shubman Gill concluded. “In case you can, as a bowling group, keep constructing pressure in the center overs and keep creating opportunities…. And same after we are batting, if we will keep rotating the strike, keep batting at a healthy run rate, six-six and a half without losing too many wickets, then you definately can really arrange the sport within the death. So these are the important thing points that we discuss in team meetings – how can we keep creating opportunities in the center overs as a bowling group. And after we are batting, how can we keep really pumping on the runs.”
