A four-year-old British girl has died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool in Lanzarote, Spain.

The girl passed away despite attempts to revive her on the scene by emergency medical responders.

Ambulances and police were called, together with an emergency services helicopter, at around 1.30pm yesterday to a hotel within the resort of Playa Blanca,

An ongoing probe into the incident is being led by the Civil Guard under the coordination of an investigating judge.

Her death just isn’t being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman at a regional government emergency response coordination centre said: ‘The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre received an alert reporting that a young girl showing signs of drowning had been pulled from a hotel swimming pool and required medical assistance.

‘The 112 service immediately mobilised the vital emergency resources.

‘A coordinating nurse, present within the operations room, confirmed during her interview with the lifeguard that the girl had gone into cardiac arrest and gave instructions to start resuscitation manoeuvres.’

It comes days after one other British four-year-old boy died after falling right into a swimming pool at a vacation home where he was staying along with his parents near the Costa del Sol.

Police and paramedics were called to the agricultural home, and a helicopter was also mobilised as a part of the emergency response.

The boy was pronounced dead on the scene.

Periana Council said in a press release and direct message to the boy’s parents after learning of the tragedy, which occurred only a day after the family checked into their rented holiday accommodation: ‘Today is a deeply sad day for our town.

‘On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would really like to increase our deepest condolences to the family and family members of the kid who has passed away.

‘There are not any words that may ease such immense grief, but we do want to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time.

‘The entire of Periana shares your sadness and stands with you in your grief at such a painful and unjust loss.’
