AEW President Tony Khan had loads of praise for rising star Maya World following her surprising run to the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament.
Maya has quickly turn into considered one of AEW’s breakout performers in recent weeks, scoring upset victories over Skye Blue and Athena after entering the tournament as an alternate. Her impressive run has earned her a spot within the tournament finals at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, where she’s going to face Mercedes Mone.
During an appearance on Q93, Khan was asked to call essentially the most underrated talent in AEW and immediately pointed to Maya World. He said,
“Maya World has definitely taken everybody by surprise. She reached the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, where she got here in as an alternate and picked up two huge wins. She’s one victory away from reaching the largest stage in wrestling, getting a World Championship match at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.”
“She has taken so many individuals by surprise, but I’m not surprised. She’s an incredible star and has been doing great things. She has had some great upset victories, and it will be the largest win of her profession if she will be able to beat her idol, Mercedes Mone.”
