The All Indian Cine Staff Association (AICWA) has reiterated its demand for strict motion against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali following the reported death of a employee on the sets of Love & War. The newest statement comes immediately after reports suggested that AICWA President Suresh Gupta had written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, looking for the registration of an FIR against Bhansali, a compensation of Rs. 1 crore for the deceased employee’s family, and a high-level inquiry into the incident.

In line with reports, carpenter Chandradhari Singh Yadav, 42, allegedly died after suffering an electrical shock in the course of the shooting of the film within the early hours of June 17, 2026. He’s survived by his wife and two young daughters.  Addressing the incident, AICWA President Suresh Gupta alleged that the death resulted from a failure to keep up adequate safety measures on the film set.

Referring to the incident, Gupta said, “On seventeenth June, 2026, on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Love & War, considered one of our employees dies. He’s 42 years old, he has two young daughters, his wife. On that day, around 1.30 or 2 within the night, this incident happened. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a giant producer and filmmaker. And that employee died due to him. Due to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his production, he lost his life. If he had followed all safety norms on the set that day, the employee would have been amongst us.”

Gupta further claimed that similar incidents had allegedly taken place in the course of the production of Bhansali’s previous movies. “This will not be the primary incident of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In his film, Devdas, he took two lives on the set. He took two lives because he didn’t follow safety norms. Then in 2016, Padmaavat happened. On that set, one other employee died. Then in 2026, now, one other employee died. On their set, 4 deaths have happened repeatedly.”

Explaining why the association has sought criminal motion, Gupta added, “That’s why, we had asked the AICW to file a murder case against Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He was murdering them. ‘4 employees are losing their lives in your set. And still, as a substitute of shooting and learning your lesson, you might be constantly murdering the employees on the set’. You do not follow safety norms. Today, go and ask that employee’s family, who has two younger daughters and a wife what they feel.”

He concluded by stressing the necessity for stronger safety standards for employees within the film industry and shared, “You will not hear the news that a giant producer died on the set or a giant actor died. You’ll hear it each time that a employee died. Why do employees die each time? Because they do not give safety to the employees to get monetary savings. That is why we had asked the AICW to file a murder case against Sanjay Leela Bhansali and take strict motion by registering an FIR for a similar. That is what we had asked.”

On the time of publishing, there was no official response from Sanjay Leela Bhansali or his production team regarding the most recent remarks made by AICWA President Suresh Gupta. The matter stays under scrutiny following the reported incident on the sets of Love & War.
