India captain Harmanpreet Kaur placed on an excellent display with the bat within the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia on Sunday, June 28, at the enduring Lord’s. With India needing a win to remain alive within the tournament, the skipper stepped up when it mattered most.
After winning the toss, India selected to bat first and posted a robust total of 170/4. Harmanpreet provided the late fireworks in the ultimate over. She began by smashing Sophie Molineux straight down the bottom for a six on the second ball. On the following delivery, she made room and launched one other six over long-off, bringing up her half-century in style.
She wasn’t done yet. Harmanpreet hit one other six on the fourth ball, sending it over extra cover. Phoebe Litchfield got a hand to the ball but couldn’t hold on, because it cleared the boundary for Harmanpreet’s third consecutive six.

Sophie Molineux finally got her revenge by dismissing Harmanpreet Kaur on the fifth ball of the over. But by then, the Indian captain had already made a huge impact, helping India finish their innings on a robust note.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front when her team needed her probably the most within the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. With a spot within the semi-finals on the road, India needed to beat Australia in this important match.
Handling the pressure brilliantly, Harmanpreet played an excellent innings of 56 runs from just 27 balls at a strike rate of 207.41. Her knock included six fours and three sixes, helping India post a robust total to defend. She brought up her half-century in only 25 balls, making it the second-fastest fifty against Australia Women in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
It was also the fastest fifty by an Indian woman within the tournament. This was Harmanpreet’s fifth half-century in Women’s T20 World Cups, taking her level with Charlotte Edwards and Meg Lanning for probably the most 50-plus scores as captain within the tournament, moving ahead of Chamari Athapaththu.
