It was all meant to be so different. Arriving on Saturday morning with England 223-2 and Joe Root and Jacob Bethell well settled, this was meant to be the day when England rejoiced within the sun, piling on the runs, going past Recent Zealand’s 438 and build up a lead of 100 to 150 by the tip of the day, the rehabilitation of Ben Stokes complete, the Bazball project back on course.
