Former WWE head author Vince Russo is genuinely not a fan of the present product led by Triple H. Being an old-school Vince McMahon guy, Russo has always expressed his dissatisfaction with how Hunter handles business.
In a recent Twitter post, Russo reflected on what McMahon taught him concerning the wrestling business from day one. The previous WWE author said,
“I’ll ALWAYS at the start take a look at Skilled Wrestling/Sports Entertainment as just one thing . . . a BUSINESS . . . because that’s what it’s about. @VinceMcMahon taught me that from DAY ONE. My job was to GET AS MANY PEOPLE TO WATCH AS POSSIBLE. The more EYE BALLS the more Merch Sales, PPV Buys (now Subscriptions), House Show Ticket Sales, etc.. All the things fed off of HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE WATCHING THE SHOW every Monday Night (and later Thursday with SmackDown).”
“In the course of the ‘Attitude Era’ it was never about ‘Favorites’, or Who was ‘Popular within the Dressing Room’, or who ‘Deserved it’ because they put so a few years within the business, or who the Dirt Sheet Writers were clamoring for, it was all the time about ONE THING . . . Russo Slams Sami Zayn’s WWE Championship Win
Sami Zayn beat Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER to secure the Undisputed WWE Title at Night of Champions 2026. Nonetheless, Zayn’s championship win didn’t sit well with Vince Russo. Speaking on “The Coach & Bro” show, Russo said,
“I can’t keep a straight face. If I read yet another tweet online, especially from any person within the business, ‘Oh, 13 years within the business, no person deserved it.’ Bro, after I come on this show and inform you the marks are within the ring, look how the wrestlers react. Have a look at what they are saying. They are saying, ‘Oh, the guy’s been within the industry for 13 years, he deserves it.’ Bullsh**, bro. Sami Zayn didn’t win anything. You recognize what number of guys have been within the business 13 years, 17 years, 20 years, 25 years? Mr. Perfect and Scott Hall died without ever winning a WWE World Title.”
“And I swear to God, bro, when wrestlers sound like marks, it’s freaking embarrassing to me. Sami earned what? What did he earn? He worked harder than all the opposite wrestlers you see on the market working? Really? This to me is an absolute joke.”
“Your World Champion is alleged to be the hood ornament of your organization. And Cody was great at that. You guys know I’m not a giant Cody fan, but because the hood ornament of the WWE, the way in which he dressed, the way in which he carried himself, absolutely no problem. What got Sami over? Comedy, bro. That’s what got him over. When he was within the Bloodline, they put him in a comedic spot, and he got over. Bro, this will not be a comedic spot. That is WWE World Champion. This will not be a comedy spot.”
