Modnation Racers Has Been Revived By Fans, With Online Support

Considered one of the PS3‘s most underrated cult classics, Modnation Racers, has just been brought back in 4K by fans and even has full online support.

Although the PlayStation 3 began life by shooting itself within the foot with a hefty price tag, it will definitely went on to be certainly one of the corporate’s best and most well-rounded consoles, especially now that we’re seeing what Sony desires to do next. Sadly, the PS3 is also a little bit of a graveyard for some major hidden gems that we’ll likely never see again.

There are some obvious titles which are stuck on the PS3 like Infamous, Resistance, and the early Killzone games, but more interesting are those that did not get as much time within the highlight. The Puppeteer, Rag Doll Kung Fu, and Tokyo Jungle all jump to mind pretty quickly, but certainly one of my favourites is Modnation Racers, which has finally received the love that it is often deserved.

Modnation Racers Fans Have Brought It Back On PC, And It’s Higher Than Ever

With Online Support And Crossplay, This Is The Revival PlayStation Refused To Give Us

For individuals who do not know, which I’m guessing is lots of you considering the series never really took off, Modnation Racers was a kart racing game with a major give attention to customisation and player creation that gave it some heavy LittleBigPlanet vibes. The underrated gem released on PS3 in 2010 and, while it had a dedicated player base, that sadly didn’t stop it from going completely offline in 2018.

Since Modnation Racers was laser-focused on its online play, being taken offline and locked to the PS3 for eternity principally killed it altogether. That was the case until Twitter user PStripl3 confirmed that they’ve managed to revive the sport and make it playable on PC with full online support.

That is not all, though, this PC version of Modnation Racers actually improves on the unique, with 4K and 60fps for the primary time, enhancements, crossplay, and support for the sport’s massive amount of crossover DLC. Twitter user StormslayerDev, who first shared the news of the revival, even showed off among the skins, like Sly, Sackboy, and Kratos, in motion.

I don’t know if this emulated version of Modnation Racers goes to be picked up by Sony and eventually taken down (as a separate revival project seems to still be around), however it’s still heartwarming to see such a cult classic get a brand new lease of life all these years later. I just wish United Front Games was still around to see how beloved its first game still is to this present day.
