NBC’s Sara Gore is giving an update on her health after sharing her breast cancer diagnosis.
“Hi, friends. Just somewhat update…” Gore wrote via Instagram on Sunday, July 12. “I’m doing very well. Let’s get that out of the way in which. Currently cancer free. Hallelujah. 🙌 I’m still within the reconstruction phase and shall be for months. It’s truly a journey. Healing has taken a while, but every week I’ve felt somewhat more like me again.”
She continued, “Thanks for the books. The food. The flowers. The prayers. The puzzles. The cards. The texts. The calls. Every thoughtful gesture that got here my way. I felt EVERY little bit of it. You carried me through some really hard days, and I’ll always remember your kindness.”
Gore shared that she can be returning to Recent York Live and Open House “soon,” adding that she “truthfully can’t wait.”
“Until then, I’m absorbing these previous couple of slow mornings appreciating all of the moments that typically move by too fast to note,” she wrote. “It’s good to be here. I like you all. 🤍.”
Gore shared on air in April that she desired to open up about something “somewhat more personal” with viewers.
“I used to be recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,” Gore said. “If I didn’t say that I used to be somewhat bit scared, I’d be lying — and caught off guard, quite frankly, because I watched my mother and my sister undergo this.”
Gore explained that she “all the time knew” she was “high risk” for breast cancer attributable to her family’s medical history.

“I all the time assumed this present day would come,” she continued of her diagnosis. “But let me inform you, you’re never ready. You’re just never ready, for some reason, even if you catch it early since you’re doing all the things right.”
Gore became emotional as she added, “It’s an emotional blow and I wasn’t ready for that. That really really surprised me. It really stung.”
Gore shared that she is “exactly” where she must be, which incorporates being “surrounded by incredible doctors and people who find themselves taking such excellent care of me” each at home and work.
“I feel very supported and as hard as that is, I’m selecting to consider — at the very least for me, on this moment in time — that perhaps there may be a present on this even when I don’t fully understand what it’s yet,” Gore said. “I’m working on that part.”
She continued, “If anything, it’s already a reminder of how precious life is and the way essential it’s to give attention to what really matters … I’m going to return back higher than ever, and I’m going to see you on the opposite side of this.”
