Stefon Diggs Hit With Lawsuit

Stefon Diggs is coping with yet one more lawsuit. The free agent wide receiver is being sued by a person who claims Diggs falsely accused him of stealing a automobile, based on a report from TMZ.com. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com provides more context, noting that the person, Nigel King, can also be claiming he was attacked by the player’s friends. Diggs’ brother and three friends were also sued.

In accordance with the report, King arranged for Diggs’ automobile to be transported to Houston in July, 2024. The automobile was subsequently stolen, although King was “never identified as a suspect,” per Florio. Months later, Diggs began accusing King of stealing the automobile, with King claiming the accusation hurt his status and lost him clients. King claims that one among Diggs’ friends later punched him within the face, causing everlasting injuries.

Per the TMZ report, Diggs asked the judge “to place the brakes on the case” until the opposite defendants were served. That’s since happened, and as Florio notes, that may “set the stage for the litigation to unfold.”

Diggs went through one criminal trial this offseason. He was up against strangulation and assault charges, but a Boston jury acquitted him in May. The league later decided that there was not enough evidence to suspend Diggs. At the identical time, the WR is navigating several civil lawsuits, including one from a person who claims Diggs sexually assaulted him in 2023. That lawsuit was a counterclaim to Diggs’ own lawsuit, because the player sued the person for the initial claims.

Through all of it, Diggs has remained unsigned, although we heard recently that a handful of teams have checked in on the 32-year-old. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently said that these off-the-field issues aren’t a serious concern amongst suitors (via The John Keim Report). While the situation is “messy,” Fowler doesn’t imagine it should ultimately be a serious red flag that might prevent Diggs from joining a team.

After a knee injury limited him to only eight games during his lone 12 months in Houston, Diggs joined the Patriots last offseason. He had a bounce-back campaign for the eventual AFC champs, hauling in 85 catches for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Patriots moved on after the season, opening up greater than $16MM in cap space in the method.
