WWE Intercontinental Champion PENTA found himself at the middle of unexpected controversy during Fanatics Fest NYC after popular streamer N3on by chance captured the masked superstar without his mask while livestreaming the event.
Based on those present, PENTA immediately asked for the footage to be deleted. In lucha libre culture, a wrestler’s masked identity is treated with tremendous respect, and revealing it without permission is widely considered a significant violation. While some legendary masked stars, including Rey Mysterio, have change into more public about their identities over time, PENTA has remained committed to keeping his face hidden outside of official appearances.
The incident quickly gained attention online. N3on insisted he never uploaded the clip himself, but WWE officials reportedly informed him that they’d seen the footage and barred him from returning to the corporate’s booth for the second day of Fanatics Fest. Despite his explanation, the choice was reportedly not reversed.
Nonetheless, that wasn’t the top of N3on’s WWE weekend.
Despite being banned from the Fanatics Fest WWE booth, N3on was later seen attending WWE Saturday Night’s Major Event at Madison Square Garden on July 18.
During his livestream from the event, the controversial streamer publicly apologized to PENTA for what happened. N3on said the situation was a misunderstanding, explaining that he had been told he was allowed to stream in that area while PENTA had apparently been informed he could remove his mask there.
N3on stressed that exposing the WWE star’s face was never intentional and said he never meant to disrespect or upset PENTA. He said,
“I just desired to apologize. It was a transparent misunderstanding. They told him that he could take the mask off in that area, they usually told me I could stream in that area, and it just splashed, and s**t happened. It was never my intention to anger you on purpose. I’m sorry.”
