Stephen Fulton Blows Weight, Liam Wilson Fight Off

The competition had already been downgraded from a WBA junior lightweight title eliminator after Fulton’s team requested a catchweight of 133 kilos earlier within the week. On Friday’s official weigh-in day, the fight was scrapped entirely.

Fulton admitted before the cancellation that he was struggling to make 130 kilos. He said Wilson’s team had already been warned concerning the weight issue behind the scenes.

“I discussed something about it, a ‘behind the doors’ kind of thing. It was (an official request), but I needed to make the burden, regardless of what. (In response, promoters told him) ‘Attempt to make the burden.’ And that’s what I’m doing, and that’s what I did. That’s why I didn’t come yesterday ’cause I’m sitting here attempting to make the burden. I’d relatively miss a media workout than not fight. I’m trying to avoid wasting the cardboard and my slot, in order that’s why I didn’t show up yesterday.”

Fulton also revealed that he plans to go away the division after struggling to achieve the junior lightweight limit for a second straight fight.

“I might most definitely campaign as a light-weight moving forward,” said Fulton.

Wilson accepted the late move to 133 kilos before the bout was eventually canceled, saying the additional allowance didn’t trouble him.

“I only worry about what happens on my side of the fence, what’s happens on his side is as much as him. I’ve fought guys like him before. They’ve are available heavy. They don’t work that onerous, or they think they’ve a bonus over you. Whatever it might be if he must be a greater version of himself coming in heavy, so be it,” said Wilson.

“If anything, it’s sort of relieving, less weight to lose. I’m an expert. 130 was the burden limit, and I used to be prepared to make that weight, but less weight to lose is healthier for me.”

The cancellation is one other disappointment for the Tim Tszyu vs. Errol Spence Jr. undercard after Jermall Charlo’s scheduled bout with Koen Mazoudier was also faraway from the show earlier within the week.
