Sony has rolled out a brand new update for the PlayStation 5, introducing the next recent features: Welcome hub, Party Share, personalized 3D audio profiles, additional Distant Play settings, and adaptive charging for controllers. The brand new Welcome hub is a personalised space on the PlayStation 5 home screen that users can customize with widgets in order that they can see the knowledge they care about at a fast glance. For users within the U.S., the Welcome hub replaces the Explore tab. A number of the widgets which are available include console storage, battery levels for accessories, online friends, trophies, and more. Users also can change the Welcome hub’s background, including using their very own screenshot from the Media Gallery.
The following feature is Party Share, which is rolling out over the following few weeks. Party Share allows users to share party voice chat links on any messaging or social media app, so anyone can join the party voice chat, even in the event that they haven’t been added to a friends list. Users will find the Share party link option under Invite Players within the voice chat card within the Control Center. The PlayStation mobile app can be being updated with the same feature.
The remaining features have been a part of the PlayStation 5 beta test previously announced in July. This includes personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds, Distant Play settings for individual users, and adaptive charging for controllers—available only on the PlayStation 5 Slim and upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. Personalized 3D audio profiles will be found under Settings -> Sound -> 3D Audio on the PlayStation 5 console. This feature will create an audio profile that will be used per user.
Those that want more control over Distant Play settings can now configure it per user, selecting who’s allowed to hook up with the PlayStation 5 console using Distant Play. These settings will be found under Settings -> System -> Distant Play -> Enable Distant Play.
The ultimate feature within the September 2024 PlayStation 5 update is adaptive charging for the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller. It’s currently only available on the slimmer PlayStation 5 model, but it’ll also work with the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. This feature will help save power by adjusting how long power is supplied to the controller, based on its battery level. Users can find the toggle for this under Settings -> System -> Power Saving -> Features Available in Rest Mode -> Adaptive (as an alternative of Supply Power to USB Ports).
