Host: “Whenever you take a look at a few of the players that don’t have any tenure left on their contract. (Jake) Evans, (Christian) Dvorak, and guys like (Joel) Armia. Do you think that there’s a probability that the Montreal Canadiens make their move prior to the NHL trade deadline? Or do you expect it to be lively? Or do you continue to think those players will go to the top?”
Dave Pagnotta: “I believe, well, I believe a man like Evans, guy like (David) Savard, their cap hits lower. Evans, especially, I believe, 1.75, something like that. That’s a gorgeous piece for teams which might be searching for any individual of their bottom six or as a 4C, for instance.
NHL Rumors: Recent York Rangers, and the Montreal Canadiens
And there are teams on the market which might be searching for that whenever you’ve got the cash, that makes just a little bit more sense. You are trying to make those forms of acquisitions just a little bit earlier in order that your competition doesn’t get their hands on them. So I believe we’re going to see not only with the Habs, but I believe with just a few different teams, we’re going to see a gradual incline towards the trade deadline.
I don’t think it’ll be like last season, and even the season before, where we saw so many moves, sort of within the month leading as much as the deadline that it took away from trade deadline day specifically. I believe we’ll have a little bit of a completely satisfied medium, but I believe we’ll also see some moves, sort of December and January, where we see a pair various things, sort of panning out, since you’ve got so many teams that sort of imagine that they’re in wild-card contention or playoff contention on the whole, that in the event that they can tweak here and there, just a little addition here and there that might put them over the sting.
So with the form of players the Canadiens have which might be on the expiring contracts, think it’s 4 or five forwards and Savard on the blue line those guys are going to excuse me, are going to generate interest. After which the Canadiens have one retention slot left, so that they’re in a position to eat some money on at the least well, it could only be one deal for the balance of this season. They may tackle money. I believe that’s still something they’re willing to do by way of taking up a contract, but by way of retaining money, they’ve one slot left.
So whether or not they allocate that for a David Savard or a Christian Dvorak or Joel Armia, they’re going to should be selective, obviously, in what route they go, but they’ve quite a lot of flexibility to make some moves, not only in March, but within the months leading as much as it.
NHL Rumors: The Ottawa Senators are In search of a Dman, and Questioning the Core
And if any individual presents something now, I can’t see a scenario where Kent Hughes doesn’t take a take a look at it, because he’s made it fairly clear, from my understanding, talking to other teams on the market that they’re willing to make moves, whether it’s now or February or March.”
