Since ages, Arts has been attempting to present one subject with infinite perspectives – Ramayana. The story of Lord Rama, that’s the essence of any Hindu household. Ashutosh Rana, has now taken the responsibility of playing Ravana within the play Humare Ram. The theater is being recieved with housefull shows currently in Mumbai’s NMAAC and is scheduled to be staged everywhere in the country within the upcoming weeks.
Loveyapa actor, in an exclusive conversation with Koimoi, talked about playing Ravana in Humare Ram and said, “The play has accomplished 160 shows in the entire country. And 160 shows, house-packed shows throughout India. We’ve got performed ourselves in about 11-12 states. To date, now we have received numerous applause, appreciation, and acceptance. And that’s that we were in a position to complete 160 shows in a yr. Otherwise, it is rather difficult for any play to have 160 shows in a yr.”
Ashutosh Rana On Playing Ravana
While Ashutosh Rana has written a book on Lord Ram titled Ram Rajya, he selected to play Ravana within the play Humare Ram. Discussing how he balanced between the 2 contrasts, the actor explained, ” Look, it is rather exciting in itself. While you write a book on Lord Ram’s darshan, which won the Sahitya Academy Award and is a bestseller, you play the role of Ravana.”
Talking further, the actor said, “So, I feel that Ravana’s character, who we all know as the final word negative consciousness when he comes in touch with Ram, the strategy of transforming that negative consciousness into positive consciousness, and at any time when you see someone from a friend’s perspective, and also you see someone from an enemy’s perspective, and if you see someone from an enemy’s perspective, after which fall in love with him, then definitely his personality becomes even greater. So, through Ravana’s character, if you see Lord Ram from an enemy’s perspective, you fall in love with him. This is an excellent journey. And I consider that greater than our friends, our enemies remember our name more. So, by utilizing this excuse, Ravana’s contemplation moves faster in our minds. So, it advantages us ultimately.”
The Responsibility To Play Ravana
Ashutosh Rana further talked about how necessary it was to play the most important villain. He confessed, “As an actor, you’ll ask, then I’ll say that, whether it’s a negative character or a positive character, fulfilling the character with honesty, responsibility, and dignity is the work of a author and an actor. And I consider that if you come to our Ram, then the character of Ravana may be played by the one that knows God Ram just a little. Because without knowing Ram, you can’t play Ravana. So, it is a very responsible job.”
Why Does Ramayana In Movies Fail?
Because the actor has written a book inspired by Ramayana and plays Ravana within the play Humare Ram, we asked him why Ramayana is successful as a play or a TV serial but not in movies. Prior to now, movies on Ramayana failed, but in the longer term, there are movies on Ramayana being made. The actor, very importantly, identified, “So, sometimes in life, we’re in a position to communicate with someone, but we aren’t in a position to connect. Sometimes, we connect but aren’t in a position to communicate. In theatre, the opportunity of connecting and communicating could be very, very much present.
The actor elaborated, “The energy that’s required each day is different for us every moment. Our emotions are different. The reality of the moment, in you and me, works to present joy or to create joy. But, in film, the reality of the moment shouldn’t be there. It was the reality of that moment when it was being shot. And together with the reality of that moment, I feel that the most important thing is that somewhere, you’ve gotten to concentrate to the writing. Why was Ramayan written so again and again? Because so many individuals saw it from their very own perspective.”
Ashutosh Rana also talked about OTT, the changing shape of cinema, the fear of getting typecast, the shortage of quality content, and more.
