A knife attack on the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin has left no less than one person severely injured.

The stabbing took place around 6pm between the US Embassy and the Holocaust memorial within the centre of Berlin.

Berlin Police said the severely injured man was taken to hospital.

Emergency vehicles have flooded the scene, as several witnesses to the stabbing are being treated for shock.

The crime scene has been cordoned off and officers are searching the realm, in response to Bild newspaper.

The perpetrator or perpetrators are currently on the run.

The Holocaust Memorial was opened in 2005 and commemorates 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

Three weeks ago a 36-year-old destroyed wreaths on the memorial and injured two people before being arrested.
