At one point in the course of the launch of their recent sporting enterprise, sisters Milka and Mandy Romero reminded everyone that on this particular day last yr, they made the Capital1 Solar Spikers a part of the Premier Volleyball League.
It has been an exquisite experience for the Romero siblings, with the team notching franchise milestones. However it has also been difficult, with the Capital1 facing the identical growth pains recent clubs normally undergo.
“It takes time to construct a team’s chemistry,” Mandy Romero said.
The latest project, nonetheless, may prove to be different.
On Wednesday, the sisters unveiled the Capital1 Solar Strikers, the most recent team competing within the Philippine Football Federation Women’s League.
“We’ve seen the expansion of ladies’s sports within the country and we would like to push that and let others experience what my sister and I did as players,” Milka Romero said in the course of the team’s unveiling at Out Of Office bar in Taguig City, which was also attended by PFF president John Gutierrez. “If we may help one woman or one girl achieve her dream in sports, then we did our job.”
And the Solar Strikers are looking forward to some early success despite being league newbies.
“We expect to start out strong, especially with coach Let (Dimzon) and with loads of great players on the team,” Mandy added.
Dimzon, who could have a forged that features seasoned players, overseas talent and products from collegiate powerhouse programs like La Salle and Far Eastern U, expects the team to be competitive.
“We just need to get everybody fit,” Dimzon said. “Then, after all, learn our system. With the experience of my players, I believe we’re able to compete against the likes of Kaya and Stallion.”
