Michelle Williams welcomes fan mail, but when fans say her name, say her name, they aren’t all the time referring to the previous Destiny’s Child singer.
Williams, 45, took a while to reply letters from fans as she’s in Latest York City starring on Broadway in Death Becomes Her. She uploaded a hilarious update via Instagram on Monday, March 10, where she highlighted one particularly from a fan named Phillip.
“Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits,” the letter began. “My name is Phillip and I actually have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in each film and theater. Your work in Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea [and] The Biggest Showman has deeply moved me and plenty of others, showcasing your exceptional talent.”
Phillip, in fact, made a bugaboo and meant to send the letter to the actress Michelle Williams of Dawson’s Creek fame, not the one who sang alongside Beyoncé within the late Nineteen Nineties and early 2000s.
“I’m writing to kindly ask in the event you would consider signing the enclosed photos I actually have of you,” the letter continued. “Moreover, I wish you all the very best and far success along with your current production of Death Becomes Her on the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. I’m sure that your fascinating performance will leave an enduring impression on the audience.”
“Phillip, thanks a lot,” Williams said, showing the photos Phillip enclosed, which were clearly of the opposite Michelle Williams.
“Michelle knows what’s happening as well, and I cannot wait to see her, hopefully earlier than later,” she said.
She also shouted out her actual fans before closing the video.
“Let me admit, I do get plenty of other fan mail that is definitely addressed to me. This Michelle Williams,” she said. “I just wanna acknowledge that.”
Fans within the comments were jumpin’ jumpin’ at Williams’ humor, including Valorie Burton, who left an emoji-filled reply.
“Noooooooo😂😂😂,” she wrote. “I used to be a bit of confused about those movie titles. [Your] humorousness is 🔥🔥😂😂😂.”
Nicole Scherzinger added, “OMGGGGG I CANNOT EVEN🙈🤣🥴you’ve me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🫠 sis!!!!!”
Perhaps Williams must have seen the writing on the wall. She has spoken about this confusion before, talking about it on a 2019 livestream via X.
“How come when y’all are tagging and congratulating an individual, do y’all see that I’m Black?” she asked. “Whenever you go to my profile, you seek for the ‘Michelle Williams,’ I’m Black. OK? I ain’t mixed with nothing, I ain’t mixed with Persian, Russian, I’m Black.”
Fan mail is one thing, however the Destiny’s Child singer must be thankful she doesn’t also get the actress’ bills, bills, bills.
