Olivia Culpo has detailed a blood clot that appeared through the early weeks of her pregnancy.
Sharing her experience via a TikTok post on Tuesday, March 18, Culpo, 32, detailed how her recently announced pregnancy to husband Christian McCaffrey left her “bleeding in all places.”
The video, which was recorded on December 12 when Culpo was nine weeks’ pregnant, revealed that the model was placed on strict bed rest after falling in poor health for 2 weeks with pneumonia. “I’ve been truly on bedrest for, like, 4 weeks,” she said before moving into the main points of her blood clot. “Towards the top of the 2 weeks of being really sick, I got a subchorionic hematoma which is essentially a blot clot in my uterus and I used to be bleeding in all places.”
In line with BabyCenter, a subchorionic hematoma, also often called a subchorionic hemorrhage, occurs, “when blood leaks out and collects between the uterine wall and the chorion,” which is the membrane around a growing baby.
Culpo, who announced her pregnancy via Instagram on March 10, explained that she had been left “so exhausted” in consequence, but was relieved to listen to her baby’s heart beat during a visit to her doctor. There, she learned how you can navigate the remaining weeks of her first trimester.
“[The doctor] said you’ll be able to’t go anywhere, you’ll be able to’t travel … just truly, stay in bed,” Culpo said before adding that “lots” of progesterone suppositories helped to “keep the environment best” for her unborn child and allowed “the placenta to connect.”

Culpo concluded, “I’m really grateful that every little thing’s going well thus far. I actually do imagine [the progesterone suppositories are] the one reason why I’m still carrying this baby. I just hope that this will help anybody else going through this.”
Culpo and NFL player McCaffrey, 28, tied the knot in June 2024 after dating for greater than 4 years. Culpo said during an October 2023 TikTok video that after she walked down the aisle with McCaffrey, she planned to “rip out” her IUD and “start trying immediately.”
She shared a selfie of her growing bump via Instagram on Sunday, March 16, posing in a brown loungewear jumpsuit paired with a gray cardigan and matching brown baseball cap as she smiled softly for the snap.
Culpo has documented various stages of her pregnancy, including participating in a maternity photo shoot that she shared as a part of her pregnancy announcement post. “Next chapter, motherhood,” she wrote alongside two serene snaps of her kneeling on the bottom while cradling her tummy.
