Shaun Weiss Turns His Addiction Battle Into Comedy Fodder
Weiss’s four-year sobriety anniversary comes almost a 12 months after he addressed his past addiction problems and arrests during a standup session on the Mic Drop Comedy Club in San Diego in April. He particularly poked fun at his 2020 arrest, mocking his mugshot.
“I don’t know should you saw that child actor arrested for burglary,” he told the audience. “I used to be very dissatisfied in myself… I didn’t even wear a disguise. What the hell? Come on, Goldberg, you’ll be able to do higher than that.”
He continued addressing his mug shot, “I’ll inform you, they’re not using any Instagram filters down there on the station. This photo was rough. you look bad when your drug dealer doesn’t need to be seen in public with you. That’s when it’s best to reassess things.”
Weiss has been sober since 2020 and hasn’t shied away from speaking about how he turned to stealing and petty theft to support his drug addiction. In an interview with “Addiction Talk,” the actor confessed that he stole $1,000 price of electronics each day to feed his addiction.
He credited his life as a baby actor for pushing him to drugs, saying, “It made me an adrenaline junkie. Things were rather a lot more exciting for me than the typical 13-year-old — taking trips and flying to places and being in movies. So I used to be very hooked on the thrill of things. And when that went away, I didn’t really know easy methods to get that feeling. And I discovered that in drugs.”
