Harry Kane’s performance in Bayern Munich’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen was labelled a ‘catastrophe’ by the German media.
Kane and Bayern’s Bundesliga title hopes took an enormous dent with a 3-0 defeat to table toppers Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso’s side at the moment are five points clear and remain undefeated this season as they appear to finish the last decade long dominance from the Bavarian club.
It was not Kane’s best performance for Bayern as he managed just 18 touches and had only one shot in the course of the whole game.
A headline in German newspaper BILD read: “The Kane disaster.” The report added that his performance was a ‘catastrophe’ before later stating it was his worst performance in a Bayern shirt.
It continued: “Kane wasn’t in the sport in any respect. No goal, no assist – BILD grade 6!
“Only his effort was right: he ran 10.8 km, only Mazraoui ran more for Bayern.
“He should win the highest scorer cannon. But he got here to Bayern to win championships…”
Kane just isn’t giving up hope on winning the primary piece of silverware in his profession and got here out fighting.
He told Sky Sports: “We didn’t play well with the ball. I assumed the pressure, especially in the primary half and even within the second half, we pressed them well, but each time we won it back we gave it straight back to them.
“That allowed them to construct momentum. In the ultimate third we weren’t good in one-vs-one battles, we weren’t good in duels, the ultimate delivery wasn’t there today, so a extremely disappointing day with the ball.
“We’re five points behind now but there are still a number of games to go. This one hurts, we wanted a distinct final result, but we’ve to deal with, first, the Champions League, and clearly the following game.
“There are a number of games to be played and we’ve to attempt to make up as many points as we will, as quickly as we will.”
On whether Bayern were now underdogs, Kane added: “That’s not for us to make your mind up. That’s for everybody else to make your mind up.
“For us, we’ve to deal with ourselves, we’ve to enhance, we’ve to recuperate. We all know that. The games are coming thick and fast so we’ve to show it around quick.”
Up next for Bayern is a visit to Lazio within the Champions League on Tuesday.
